Metro bus driver recovers after being beaten by two female riders

Bus drivers are susceptible to many dangers; in the last year, three have been assaulted in the metro area.

Cincinnati bus driver Ron Bennett was just about to close the door when one last passenger climbed up the steps. It was shortly after 5:30 p.m. on June 26, and the man was holding a black trash bag.

“I got my fare,” he said, “but I got 175 pennies.

A subdued Cincinnati Metro board took a tongue-lashing Wednesday morning, the day after the board announced it will not go for a countywide sales-tax levy this fall.

CINCINNATI -- Police arrested a man who is accused of assaulting a Metro driver aboard a bus, and a dramatic video of the incident has been shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook.

Marcellus Thomas, 49, punched and shoved a 67-year-old bus driver at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police report. The driver told police that Thomas attacked him after a dispute over the fare.

The video shows the driver push Thomas out of the bus, but Thomas gets back inside before he could close the door. They wrestle while at least five passengers try to help the driver.
